Follow the Drinking Gourd is a historical program discussing how African-American slaves used the stars - mainly the stars of the Big Dipper - to find their way north to freedom. Participants will learn the song they memorized to assist them in their trip. We will also hear the tale of one African-American family and their successful journey north to freedom. This two-hour program will help teach children about pet responsibility, learn how to make dog treats, play games and participate in a scavenger hunt. Students will make kennel cards for the homeless animals and take a behind the scenes tour of the Toledo Area Humane Society facility. There will also be plenty of time to cuddle with a few of our furry friends. All proceeds benefit the animals of the Toledo Area Humane Society. Register online or in person.
